Wyre Forest Green Party was proud to offer its public support to the co-ordinated industrial action by education, local government and civil service unions on 10th July 2014.
Green Party members from Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport participated in the TUC organised rally in Birmingham after members of Unite, National Union of Teachers, Public and Commercial Services Union, Fire Brigades Union, Unison and GMB voted to take strike action to fight for decent pay and to defend public sector services from austerity cuts.
Wyre Forest Green Party member, Louise Ryan, said, "As a wheelchair-user I am particularly concerned about this government's attack on disabled and other vulnerable people through its withdrawal of benefits and essential services and I am fully in support of the public sector workers who are fighting for decent wages and conditions. The rich and the tax-avoiders should be made to pay, not the poor and ordinary working people."
The Green Party is the only national party publicly criticising both the government’s austerity measures and its programme of privatisation of public sector services.
